Sleep apnea - Sleep apnea (alternatively sleep apnoea) is a common sleep disorder characterized by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep. These episodes, called apneas, last 10 seconds or more and occur repeatedly throughout the night.

CPAP machine - A continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine is a simple respiratory ventilator used mainly by patients at home, for the treatment of sleep apnea. In sleep apnea, the patient's airway becomes restricted as their muscles relax naturally during sleep, which causes arousal from sleep.

Human givens - Human givens psychotherapy or simply Human givens is a way of treating depression which emerged from research into sleep and especially the rapid eye movements of dream sleep. It theorises that excessive worrying while awake stimulates excessive REM sleep which deprives the individual of the refreshment of the mind brought about by so-called slow-wave sleep.
